Test thin, flabby, and entirely smooth (Ihlea magalhanica, Ihlea punctata, Ihlea racovitzai). Body elongate and roughly cylindrical. Very broad body muscles, mostly continuous around the body. Many muscles contiguous or fused in the mid-dorsal region.
Test thin, flabby, and dolioliform (Ihlea magalhanica 2, Ihlea punctata 2, Ihlea racovitzai 2). Body muscles asymmetrically arranged, continuous dorsally and interrupted ventrally. There are dextral and sinistral individuals which are mirror images.
Three recognized species, all of them have been recorded from the South Atlantic Ocean. Ihlea racovitzai, with an Antarctic distribution, occurs in the area of the Antarctic Convergence.
