Gegenbaur, 1856

Stomach giving rise to radiating pouches which are separate and unbranched; lacking a ring canal; tentacles arising from umbrella margin in clefts between lappets (except secondarily some in Chrysaora quinquecirrha from underside of lappets); mouth arms long, pointed, much folded [Chrysaora hysoscella ov; Pelagia noctiluca ov]. The sting of most species is painful, and medical attention may be needed.
