Solitary zooids: up to 140 mm long (Salpa younti). Test ridges bearing echinae, either restricted to the posterior part or over the whole length. MI and MII converging or contiguous in the mid-dorsal region, MII and MIII parallel. MVIII and MIX converging but not contiguous in the mid-dorsal region.

Aggregate zooids: up to 75 mm long, excluding projections (Salpa younti 1). Only the posterior projection echinate, tapering into a point. Body muscles usually as in Salpa aspera.
