P. reticulata var. minor is considered synonymous with this species according to Tesch (1913c). The variability within the species, especially with regard to shell length, operculum and coiling in which the variety, described by Tesch (1904),seems to differ, has to be studied more accurately. The lectotype and paralectotypes of var. minor are, however, in too poor a condition to supply data concerning the validity of the variety.
