Description:
Body is long and thin, with up to 108 segments. Slightly flattened anteriorly.
Prostomium conical, rounded, usually with two eyes (0-2) and big nuchal slits, without antenna. Peristomium and prostomium are fused; peristomium is ventrally fused with the first chaetiger.
Notopodial postchaetal lobes are finger-like, posteriorly longer and filamentous.
Noto- and neuropodia with capillary chaetae.
One to four forked chaetae with a long and a short branch present in notopodia from chaetiger 1-6.
Up to fourteen pairs of finger-like gills, starting at chaetiger 4 (C. lyra-detail).
Pygidium with three rather short cirri.

Size:
Up to 13.4 mm for 108 segments.

Colour:
Colourless. Often with brown pigmentation on the posterior part of the prostomium.

Habitat:
Muddy bottoms, sometimes in sandy mud. Seldom in pure sand.

Distribution:
North Atlantic, North Sea to Öresund.
