Body cylindrical. Prostomium oval, slightly pointed anteriorly, not much longer than wide, with an encircling rim, higher anteriorly, laterally and posteriorly weakly incised. Nuchal slits long, anteriorly diverging and extending to almost the total length of the prostomium.
20 chaetigers. Anterior segments are relatively short, in mid-body segments are very long, posteriorly segments become shorter. The two most anterior segments with a narrow glandular band. On segments 3-4 the glandular band is broad. On segments 5-8 a dorsal and from segment 9 onwards a lateral and two ventral glandular bands present.
The anterior capillary chaetae are winged and with a finely feathery tip, posterior capillaries are also winged, but with a broader tip.
Anterior segments with reduced hooks ventrally. Following segments with normal hooks with 8 rows of small teeth and a bundle of hair under the terminal tooth. Posterior 3 segments without chaetae (E. droebachiensis-detail).
Pygidium funnel-shaped, with 10-30 long cirri and 0-3 shorter cirri and 1 long ventral cirrus in between.
Probably up to 60 mm or more for 20 chaetigers.
Thin, covered with mud, fine sand or foraminiferans. Diameter outside 1.1 mm, inside about 0.8 mm.
Yellowish-brown to reddish spots on 3-8th chaetigers.
Upper sublittoral from 20 m down to about 450 m deep.
Middle and northern North Sea, Skagerrak, Kattegat to Öresund.
