Artediellus uncinatus Reinhardt, 1835

Diagnosis: head and body without granulations or dermal knobs occipital protuberances absent; nasal spine well developed; twin pores on chin at symphysis (pores sometimes merged or spanned by a pit), always well marked. D VII-VIII + 12-13; A 10-12; P 20-22. Lateral , line pores 24-28; sensory pores on head very small. Colour: light, with dark, pale brown or reddish mottling; dorsal fin with small, roundish, white blotches on a dark background, especially distinct in males; anal and pectoral fins with dark cross-bars. Caudal fin with blotch on base. Size: to 10 cm, usbottom invertebr

Habitat: benthic on sand, mud or hard bottoms at 15-200 m. Food: no data. Reproduction: a female with advanced ova was recorded in August; eggs translucent and deep orange, diameter 3 mm (Backus, 1957).

Distribution: eastern coast of Greenland to 65°30' N. Elsewhere, western North Atlantic
(Labrador to Cape Cod), western coast of Greenland to 68° N, in Arctic Alaska westward to Point Barrow (Walters, 1955).
