Diagnosis: see generic characters. Size: to about 50 mm.

Habitat, Food, Reproduction: see family.

Distribution: known from about 150 specimens, the majority of which are caught within the area. A few specimens are reported from the western and central Atlantic, the Gulf of Guinea and from the southern Pacific.
