Diagnosis: head 32-38% of SL. Gillrakers 8-10 + 18-22. D II + 10-11; A I + 7-9. Origin of anal fin under fifth or sixth ray of dorsal fin. Size: 8.4-12.2 cm SL (at maturity).

Habitat: bathypelagic; adults 800-1,000 m or deeper. Food : no data. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: Atlantic, southern Indian and western South Pacific Oceans.

Eggs, larvae and young stages. Ebeling & Weed, 1963, fig. 12C (young stages), fig. 12D-E (postlarvae).
Otoliths (sagitta). No data.
