Lamna Cuvier, 1817

Large fusiform sharks with robust trunk and conical pointed snout; teeth slender, triangular, smooth-edged, with pointed cusplets on each side of the base; first two teeth in each jaw similar in shape to those succeeding. First dorsal fin origin over or anterior to inner corner of pectoral fins; caudal pits present, forming transverse furrows; below the main caudal keel, a secondary longitudinal keel on each side of tail.
