Moridae

A projection of the swimbladder extending far anteriorly on each side of the fish, and attaching to the rear of the cranium. Hypural bones 4-6, of which 2, 3 or 4 are supported on the last ural centrum. Caudal peduncle very narrow.
Most species benthopelagic at bathyal or abyssal depths, but some may be pelagic. Generally not very common, but some species are caught rather often. So far as known, eggs and early stages pelagic.

Genera about 20; in Clofnam area about 10.
