Dolopichthys allector Garman, 1899

Diagnosis: females with illicial length 41-48% SL (specimens more than 60 mm); esca with 2 darkly pigmented, posteriorly directed papillae on dorsal surface of bulb; compressed, posterior appendage crescent-shaped. Vomerine teeth absent in specimens more than 60 mm (2 in the 16 mm only known smaller specimen); other characters in genus and key.

Distribution: Atlantic and south-eastern Pacific; in Clofnam area a single specimen not previously recorded, obtained north-east of the Azores by FFS Anton Dohrn, May 1979 (St. 371/79).
