Description: Body rather slender, elongate; pleon segment 4 deeply depressed dorsally with pair of anteriorly directed setae and pair of short posteriorly directed spines. Coxal plate 1 short, apex obtusely rounded, posterior margin with minute tooth, posterodistal margin with about 3 to 5 setae; coxal plates 2 and 3 posterodistal angle with only small tooth, distal margin with about 15 setae; coxal plate 4 rounded, distal margin with about 14 setae. Epimeral plate 3 posterodistal margin broadly rounded, distal margin with 3 or spine groups. Eyes large and oval in female, kidney-shaped in male. Antenna 1 peduncle article 1 distal margin broadly rounded, ventral margin with 2 or 3 plumose setae, flagellum in female 5 to 6-articulate, in male 9 to 11-articulate. Antenna 2 flagellum in female 8 to 10-articulate, in male filiform exceeding length of body. Uropod 3 outer ramus with article 2 only one-third length of article 1.
Size: Up to 5 mm, occasionally up to 6 mm.
Colour: Body almost devoid of pigment.
Habitat: Depth range from 0 to 40 metres, usually on fine sand or muddy sand.
Distribution: North East Atlantic; North Sea; European coasts from northern Norway; North Africa; Madeira; Canary Islands. |
