Male coxal plate 1 strongly produced anteriorly and acute. Antenna 1 peduncle article 2 slightly longer than article 1, flagellum very slender, twice the length of the peduncle, up to about 20-articulate; accessory flagellum 2-articulate with article 2 minute. Antenna 2 scarcely more than half the length of antenna 1, flagellum a little shorter than the peduncle article 5, about 8-articulate. Male gnathopod 1 basis broad, carpus very large with the posterodistal margin forming a large simple tooth, propodus short and broad with the posterior margin irregularly sinuous. Female gnathopod 1 basis short and robust, carpus densely setose and about equal in length as the propodus, palm convex, oblique, delimited by a long spine. Male gnathopod 2 basis broad, merus reaching more than half the length of the carpus, propodus long and slender, palm very short; merus, carpus and propodus with many long plumose setae on the anterior margins; dactylus very small. Female gnathopod 2 basis slender, merus reaching three-quarters of the length of the carpus, propodus width to length ratio about 1:4; anterior margins with a dense row of plumose setae. Pereiopods 5 to 7 basis broad, posterior margin with long setae.
Up to about 8 mm.
Depth range from 0 to 150 metres, amongst algae and hydroids, usually in the subtidal but occasionally found intertidally on extreme lower shore. Prefers areas rich in detritus.
Mediterranean; Black Sea; Atlantic coast of western Europe to Shetland Isles.
