Sars, 1926

Carapace medium to large, 0.65-0.7 mm long, subrhomboidal, moderately inflated. Greatest width close to mid-length. Compressed posteroventral marginal area relatively broad. Posterior margin smooth. Dorsomedian sulcus absent. Male copulatory appendage with a relatively short, broad distal process (B. bradyi 4 ).

This is the only British Bythocythere species known to occur in the littoral zone. Down to about 80 metres depth.
