(Spence Bate, 1860)

Description:
Female stage with the middle part of the body sac-like, having two or three lobes on each side; head present as a small conical projection still retaining appendages for attachment; posterior region also cone-like and with some evidence of segments particularly in maturing females. Cryptoniscus (male) with antenna 1 biramous. Female reaching 8 mm body length.

Habitat:
Adults in the mantle cavity of the shore barnacles Balanus balanoides , Elminius modestus , Chthamalus stellatus and Balanus perforatus .

Distribution:
A southern species, but recently recorded in Norway.
