Description:
Species up to 40 mm overall length; pale puce, sometimes quite dark. Rostrum minute. Third maxillipeds leg-like, not forming an operculum. Chelipeds massive, the finger-tips not crossing markedly; the joint between carpus and merus wasp-waisted; merus bears curved and serrated outgrowth; propodus and merus very hairy on the lower edge. Dactyl of pereiopod 3 elongated, plate-like. Telson as long as uropods.

Habitat:
Burrows in muddy sand, from the low water line, down to 20 metres.

Distribution:
Only in the south, probably to Mediterranean.
