(Fabricius, 1777)

Carapace rhomboidal, with cylindrical strong spine at the middle of the lateral margin, abruptly tapering at tip. Upper surface of carapace granulated, coarsely and thickly on the lateral spine and the posterior surface of the carapace. Hepatic and protogastric regions separated from several median regions by a broad, deep longitudinal groove, which extends from the middle of the antero-lateral margin to the lateral of the intestinal region. Between hepatic and protogastric regions a branched shallow groove, another between cardiac and intestinal regions. Outerorbital tooth projecting beyond front. Frontal margin with a V-shaped notch at the middle, divided into 2 blunt teeth. Dorsal border of orbit with 2 sutures. Antero-lateral margin concave at the middle. Postero-lateral margin almost straight. Posterior margin with a rounded protuberance on each side.
Chelipeds slender. Fingers shorter than palm, inner side finely spinulated. Ambulatory legs slender and smooth. Carapace length of the female 2.09 mm, breadth 59.6 mm (including lateral spines). (Dai & Yang, 1991)

Type locality: Tranquebar, south-eastern India.
Range: Turkey - Mersin Korfezi; East Africa - Kilwa; Mauritius; India - Tranquebar (Fabricius, 1777), Madras (Alcock, 1896); Sri Lanka; Andaman Islands (Alcock, 1896); China - Guangdong including Hainan Island (Dai & Yang, 1991); Taiwan - Tingch'ieting (Lin, 1949); Gulf of Thailand; Singapore (Nobili, 1903c); Australia - Thursday Island.
