Type species: Euplexaura capensis Verrill, 1869

Total number of species estimated: 15

Description: Colonies forming fans with thick branches. Colour of colonies red, purple, yellow. Coenenchyme with ellipsoid spindles with densely set complex tubercles. Zooxanthellae absent.

Habitat: Reef slope.

Range: Tropical Indo-Pacific

Remarks: Many species formerly attributed to other genera, like for instance Muricella, actually belong to Euplexaura.
