Alvariño, 1962

Hooks: 8-10; anterior teeth: 5-8; posterior teeth: 8-16.
Maximum adult body length: 60 mm; tail: 15 %.
Body flaccid, opaque; transversal musculature absent; head narrow; hooks not serrated. Fin bridge present. Anterior fins long, beginning at middle of ventral ganglion, partially rayed, rounded; posterior fins of medium length, partially rayed, rounded. Collarette absent; gut diverticula absent. Small eyes, with round pigment spot. Seminal vesicles conical; position of seminal vesicles: touching neither posterior fins nor tail fin. Ovaries long, reaching to neck region; ova small. Adhesive papillae and adhesive organs absent. Apical glands absent.

Distribution: shallow-mesopelagic; North Paciifc transitional waters.
