Hooks: 5-11; anterior teeth: 4-6; posterior teeth: 5-8.
Maximum adult body length: 90 mm; tail: 19-25 %.
Body large and transparent; transversal musculature absent; head fairly large; hooks not serrated. Fin bridge present. Anterior fins long, reaching anterior end of ventral ganglion, partially rayed, round; posterior fins long, partially rayed, rounded. Collarette absent; gut diverticula absent. Small eyes, with round pigment spot. Seminal vesicles small, conical; position of seminal vesicles: close to posterior fins, well separated from tail fin. Ovaries of medium length, reaching till region of ventral ganglion; ova small. Adhesive papillae and adhesive organs absent. Apical glands absent.

Distribution: deep meso- to bathypelagic; cosmopolitan;

Remarks: displays tropical submergence.
