Hooks: 3-10; anterior teeth: 2-8; posterior teeth: 5-12.
Maximum adult body length: 42 mm; tail: 15-17 %.
Body flaccid, transparent; transversal musculature absent; head fairly narrow; hooks not serrated. Fin bridge present. Anterior fins long, reaching posterior end of ventral ganglion, partially rayed, round; posterior fins long, partially rayed, angular. Collarette absent; gut diverticula absent. Small eyes, with small round pigment spot. Seminal vesicles conical; position of seminal vesicles: neither touching posterior fins nor tail fin. Ovaries of medium length, reaching till middle of anterior fins, broad, and with distinct sperm receptaculum in anterior end; ova small. Adhesive papillae and adhesive organs absent. Apical glands absent.

Distribution: epi- to shallow-mesopelagic; circumglobal, between 40°N and 40°S.
