Casanova, 1986

Hooks: 12-14; anterior teeth: 9-12; posterior teeth: 11-16.
Maximum adult body length: 31 mm; tail: 39-46 %.
Body firm opaque; transversal musculature on trunk and tail; head wide; hooks not serrated. Fin bridge absent; one pair of medium length lateral fins both on trunk and tail; lateral fins rayless, rounded. Collarette absent; gut diverticula absent; eyes absent. Seminal vesicles conical; position of seminal vesicles: touching both posterior fins and tail fin. Ovaries of medium length, reaching to region of ventral ganglion; ova fairly small. Adhesive papillae and adhesive organs absent. Vestibular organs irregular; apical gland cell complex present; neck canals absent.

Distribution: bathypelagic.

Remarks: 10 specimens from about 4000 m in the Eastern North Atlantic.

Type locality: 20°N, 21°W.
