Description
Hooks: 8-11; anterior teeth: none; posterior teeth: 5-11.
Maximum adult body length: 16 mm; tail: 25-29 %.
Body firm, opaque, broadest at region of tail septum; transversal musculature on trunk; head narrow; hooks serrated in juveniles. One pair of very long lateral fins both on trunk and tail; lateral fins partially rayed, rounded. Collarette absent; gut diverticula absent; eyes absent. Seminal vesicles conical; position of seminal vesicles: touching posterior fins, separated from tail fin. Ovaries short; ova large. Adhesive papillae and adhesive organs absent; apical glands present.
Distribution: mesopelagic; Tropical Eastern Atlantic.
Remarks: 80 specimens found South tropical Atlantic.
Type locality: 5°26'S, 1°30'E. |
