Casanova, 1994

Hooks: 12; anterior teeth: 3; posterior teeth: 3-4.
Maximum adult body length: 12 mm; tail: 41 %.
Body firm and muscular, opaque; transversal musculature on trunk and tail; head wide; hooks not serrated. Fin bridge absent; one pair of medium length lateral fins both on trunk and tail; lateral fins partially rayed, very few rays, rounded. Collarette absent; gut diverticula absent; eyes absent. Seminal vesicles conical; position of seminal vesicles: separated from posterior fins and touching or close to tail fin. Ovaries unknown; ova unknown. Adhesive papillae and adhesive organs absent. Vestibular organs prominent with papillae; apical gland cell complex absent; neck canals absent.

Distribution: bathypelagic.

Remarks: one immature specimen from about 2400 m in the Eastern North Atlantic.

Type locality: 44°43.2'N, 2°19.5'W.
