Casanova, 1986

Hooks: 18; anterior teeth: none; posterior teeth: 5-6.
Maximum adult body length: 7 mm; tail: 55 %.
Body firm and opaque; transversal musculature on trunk and tail; head wide; hooks not serrated. Fin bridge absent; one pair of short lateral fins only on tail; lateral fins fully rayed, rounded. Collarette absent; gut diverticula absent; eyes absent. Seminal vesicles conical; position of seminal vesicles: close to posterior fins separated from tail fin. Ovaries short; ova unknown. Vestibular organs present one pair of papillae; apical gland cell complex present; neck canals absent. Adhesive papillae and adhesive organs absent.

Distribution: bathypelagic.

Remarks: immature specimen from 2000 m in the Mediterranean, near Corsica.

Type locality: 41°48'N, 8°16'E.
