Hooks: 10-12; anterior teeth: 22; posterior teeth: 34.
Maximum adult body length: 33 mm; tail: 32-40 %.
Body large and firm, opaque; transversal musculature on trunk and tail; head wide; hooks not serrated. Fin bridge absent; one pair of medium length lateral fins both on trunk and tail; lateral fins, fully rayed, rounded. Collarette absent or short and narrow; gut diverticula absent; eyes absent. Seminal vesicles conical; position of seminal vesicles: touching or close to posterior fins, separated from tail fin. Ovaries medium length; ova fairly small. Adhesive papillae and adhesive organs absent. Vestibular organs thick, in juveniles with small papillae; apical gland cell complex present; neck canals present.

Distribution: bathypelagic; cosmopolitan.
