Hooks: 8-10; anterior teeth: 6-10; posterior teeth: 8-18.
Maximum adult body length: 11 mm; tail: 38-45 %.
Body firm and muscular; transversal musculature absent; head wide; hooks not serrated. One pair of short lateral fins only on tail; lateral fins fully rayed, rounded. Collarette very large; gut diverticula absent. Small eyes with T-shaped pigment spot. Seminal vesicles with knob and trunk; position of seminal vesicles: touching posterior fins at some distance from tail fin. Ovaries very long, reaching to neck region; ova large. Adhesive papillae and adhesive organs absent; apical glands absent.

Distribution: epi- and mesopelagic; circumglobal between 40°N and 40°S.
