Hooks: 8-11; anterior teeth: 8 -12; posterior teeth: 15-22.
Maximum adult body length: 45 mm; tail: 20-23 %.
Body large and firm, opaque; transversal musculature absent; head wide; hooks not serrated. Fin bridge present. Anterior fins long, reaching posterior end of ventral ganglion, partially rayed, angular; posterior fins long, partially rayed, angular. Collarette long; gut diverticula present. Small eyes, with T-shaped pigment spot. Seminal vesicles conical; position of seminal vesicles: touching posterior fins, well separated from tail fin. Ovaries very long, reaching neck region, broad; ova fairly small. Adhesive papillae and adhesive organs absent. Apical glands absent.

Distribution: deep-mesopelagic; cosmopolitan between 60°N and 60°S,

Remarks:displays tropical submergence.
