Wire coral Cirrhipathes leutkeni
Description: Colony forms a long, single, unbranched, wire-like stalk that often twist and coil. They may reach over 4 m in length and grow relatively rapidly for antipatharians. Appears somewhat fuzzy, caused by extended tentacles.
Color: It appears in shades of yellow, yellow-brown, red-brown, brown and green.
Habitat: Inhabit a wide range of deep water environments, but is most common along vertical rocky faces, growing horizontally outward, at least to 120 m depth.
Distribution: Common Florida, Bahamas and Caribbean. |
