Ectoplasm clearer and less granulose than endoplasm, resembling a gelatinous sheet. Limit between endoplasm and ectoplasm generally poorly defined. Capsular wall near ectoplasmic cortex, poorly visible in light microscopy. Cell surface irregular or limited by thin periplasmic cortex. Cytoplasm crossed by numerous thin, sensitive axonemes. Flat myonemes. Gametogenesis within a cyst.
